9:00 – 13:00 at Cathedral of Christ the King.  Registration:  8:30 for 9:00. Cost is R20.  Altar servers are invited to a workshop to further develop their knowledge about their Ministry, to understand their duties and responsibilities, appearance, dress code, gestures and postures during the Liturgical celebration.

Holy Week, the pinnacle of the Catholic Christ ian calendar, is upon us. It's a solemn yet hopeful journey that begins with Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminates in the glorious celebration of His resurrection on Easter. This week isn't just about commemorating historical events. It's a profound time for Catholics to reflect on the immense sacrifice Christ made for us. Through His passion, death, and resurrection, He conquered sin and death, offering us the promise of eternal life. Easter is a celebration of this victory, a testament to God's boundless love and mercy. In today's world, where atheism and secularism can drown out the voice of faith, it's more important than ever to cultivate a strong Catholic and Christian identity. Daily prayer, attending Mass, and actively participating in the Church community nourishes our faith and equips us to be beacons of Christ's love. Our prayers hold immense power. Let us pray for the conversion of all souls, especially those who are lost, confused, or struggling with sin and identity. Every act of kindness, every word of compassion we offer to our families, the suffering, the marginalised, or those questioning their faith, is a reflection of Christ's love and carried out with compassion, This can be the bridge that draws them closer to God. Now is the time to turn to Christ for guidance. His moral teachings provide a clear framework to navigate the complexities of life. By placing our faith in Him, opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit, and letting go of our own desires, we find true peace and purpose. Humility allows us to recognise that God's plans are greater than our own, and fosters a connection built on trust and surrender. In an age where truth can seem subjective and fleeting, Holy Week reminds us of the enduring power of Christ's message. He Himself declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). His teachings offer a compass in a world filled with uncertainty. By following His path, we discover not only a moral framework but a profound purpose – to love God and love one another. As we reflect on His sacrifice this Holy Week, let us open our hearts to this truth, for it is in Christ that we find not just salvation, but the very meaning of existence. As we journey through Holy Week, let us hold onto the hope that our prayers align with God's will. May this Easter be filled with joy and renewed faith. May the Holy Spirit touch the hearts of those who haven't yet experienced God's love, and may they too find solace and redemption in the arms of Christ. As we enter the fifth week of Lent, let us reflect on the journey we have undertaken this far. With next Sunday being Palm Sunday, we are reminded of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, an event that marks the beginning of Holy Week and leads us into the Paschal Mystery of Christ. The readings for Palm Sunday offer us rich themes to meditate upon. From the Gospel of Mark, we hear the crowd's cries of "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"¹ These words, filled with hope and expectation, invite us to welcome Jesus into the Jerusalem of our hearts with faith and open arms. The Responsorial Psalm for Palm Sunday, Psalm 22, echoes the profound depths of human emotion, from despair to trust. "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"¹ This cry of anguish is transformed into a declaration of faith as the psalmist also says, "But you, O LORD, be not far from me; O my help, hasten to aid me."¹ In our own moments of trial, may we too hold fast to the belief that God is our help and will not abandon us. This week, let us be especially mindful of those around us who are in need. The marginalized, the hurting, those in broken marriages or strained relationships — they all need our compassion and prayers. Let us reach out to them, not only with our words but through our actions, embodying the love and mercy that Jesus showed to all. Family, an integral part of our spiritual life, can often be a source of both joy and pain. Even if our loved ones are far from God and the Church, we must continue to include them in our prayers, trusting that the Holy Spirit can work in their hearts. As we approach Palm Sunday and the events of Holy Week, let us hold onto our faith with renewed vigor. May we encourage not only our fellow Catholics but all Christians to seek the truth on their spiritual journey. The path to Easter is one of transformation, and through our faith and reliance on God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we can face the week ahead with courage and hope. May this Lenten season be a time of deep spiritual renewal for you and your loved ones. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Heavenly Father, as we journey through this Lenten season, we seek to draw nearer to You. With hearts full of anticipation for Palm Sunday, we ask for the grace to welcome Jesus into our lives with the same joy and hope as those who welcomed Him into Jerusalem. Lord, grant us the courage to face the challenges of the week ahead with steadfast faith. May we rely on Your strength and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all that we do. Help us to be mindful of those around us who are suffering, to offer them our compassion, and to see in them the face of Christ. We pray for our families, especially those who have strayed from Your path. May our prayers be a source of conversion and healing, and may Your love reunite us in faith. As we prepare for the solemnity of Holy Week, remind us of the great sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Let this knowledge inspire us to hold onto our faith and to support our fellow Christians in their spiritual journey towards the truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
